MIDDLEPORT — A town meeting will be held Oct. 5 to inform residents of Middleport about upcoming public works projects, totaling nearly $3 million.

Earlier this month, village council approved bids from two contractors for two major infrastructure projects. A bid from Downing Construction Co., in the amount of $427,649, was approved for development of a new water well and abandonment of a well field developed several years ago under the direction of an engineering firm under contract with the village, Floyd Browne Group.

Fields Excavating’s bid of $2,325,307.60 was approved for a new water distribution system — nearly five miles of new water lines. That project is funded through the federal stimulus program, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Village Administrator Faymon Roberts asked council to schedule the meeting so residents of the village can be made aware of just how the projects might affect them while under construction. For example, Roberts said, a map of the new water line locations could be posted at the meeting so residents will know if digging will affect their properties.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m., and the location will be announced, Mayor Michael Gerlach said at this week’s regular meeting of Middleport Village Council.
