Dear Editor:
The City Commission is meeting this evening at 7 p.m. to confirm their total lack of interest in the concerns expressed at the “public meeting” on Oct. 27 at the Episcopal Church.
To be more accurate, this reflects the attitude of three commissioners, two elected and one appointed. They are Jon Lynch, Robert Marchi and Carroll Snowden.
It was obvious at the public meeting, the people did not like the design of the city building and did not feel it met the public’s needs. They also did not wish to have the city purchase the Miller property, especially without having it appraised, as the cost seemed too high.
There was a specific request to have more public meetings to arrive at a more appropriate building. Whether this disregard of the public is simply more of the “good ole boys network” or something far worse remains to be seen.
Gallipolis needs to be more business friendly and commissioners need to listen to the public. Gallipolis is the county seat and it simply is wrong to ignore the people living both inside and outside the city limits, many of whom own property within the city.
Point Pleasant, Jackson and Middleport-Pomeroy are rapidly moving ahead of Gallipolis and the fault lies with the commission. A decision of this magnitude should not rest with three men, but should be a unanimous decision and should reflect the will of the people.
