GALLIPOLIS — Jack R. Spires was charged with four counts of burglary and one count of breaking and entering during the last session of the Gallia County Grand Jury.

Spires, 38, 15981 Ohio 279, Oak Hill, was arrested along with Jessica K. Duncan, 32, Oak Hill, by local law enforcement following a high speed chase that began in Oak Hill and ended along U.S. 35 in Rio Grande.

Counts one through four allege that on or about Oct. 15, Spires did knowingly by force, stealth, or deception, trespass in the habitations of Haskell Saunders, Monica Helms and Kendra Bence and the residence of Eric Mulholand with purpose to commit criminal offenses. Count five, breaking and entering, alleges that on the same date Spires did knowingly by force, stealth, or deception trespass in a shed, property of John Manly, with purpose to commit a theft offense.

Spires pled not guilty to the charges and a $500,000 ten percent secured bond was continued over from Gallipolis Municipal Court.

His jury trial is scheduled for Jan. 12, 2010 at 9 a.m.

Cases recently resolved include:

• Ronald “Jason” Johnson, 29, 2095 Mt. Tabor Road, Vinton, was sentenced to pay a $1,000 fine and restitution after pleading guilty to one count of criminal trespass, a misdemeanor offense.

Johnson was initially charged with breaking and entering and possessing criminal tools. He was arrested after being shot with low brass birdshot by a Bidwell man who caught him breaking into his pole barn.

Johnson was represented by Defense Attorney Jeff Finley.

• Buford W. Smallwood, Jr., was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he pled guilty to one count theft of a motor vehicle.

He was further ordered to pay $1,100 restitution to Carsel Stone as well as costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered. This sentence is to run concurrent with any additional sentences imposed in Meigs County.

• Amanda D. Whittington, 30, Lesage, W.Va., was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine after she pled guilty to attempted deception to obtain a dangerous drug, a lesser offense than deception to obtain a dangerous drug for which she was initially charged regarding a prescription for or the dispensing of Lortab in 2006.

She was further ordered to pay costs of the action.

• Kelly F. Danberry, 45, Boomer, W.Va., was sentenced to 24 months of community control after she pled guilty to one count possession of drugs regarding two five-milligram Opana tablets.

She was further ordered to perform 500 hours of community service with all but 40 hours stayed, an evaluation by Spectrum Outreach Services, obtain her GED, and pay costs of the prosecution for judgment rendered.
