REEDSVILLE — One middle school student was sent to the hospital on Thursday after reportedly attempting to intervene in an altercation between two fellow students.

A news release from the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office on Friday stated that the office is investigating the incident which sent one juvenile to the hospital and another to the juvenile detention facility in Chillicothe.

Meigs County Deputy Clint Patterson, who is one of the office’s school resource officers, responded to the altercation, in which, according to witnesses, involved two male juveniles who were fighting. The release states that the third male juvenile tried to intervene and was assaulted and seriously injured.

The injured juvenile was taken to Children’s Hospital in Columbus by medical helicopter, where he remains in ICU as of Friday afternoon.

At the recommendation of Meigs County Prosecutor James K. Stanley, felonious assault charges have been filed and the investigation is continuing.
