POMEROY — It’s Homecoming Week at Meigs High School, with the theme for this year’s event: “Banish the Buckeyes.”
The official school colors for homecoming will also be the school’s colors: maroon and gold.
There will also be themes for each day of the week. Monday and Tuesday’s themes were “Red White and Blue” Monday, with Tuesday being “Time Travel” Day,” in which students were to dress up from their favorite decade.
Wednesday’s theme is set as “College Day,” where students are encouraged to wear some sort of memorabilia from their favorite college — even the school they plan to attend once they graduate. Thursday serves as “Twin Day,” where students can dress like their friends, significant others or even a favorite teacher. Lastly, students are encouraged Friday to wear maroon and gold for the homecoming game.
There will be other homecoming activities taking place throughout the week. Banner decoration will take place all five weekdays, and must be hung up by first period Friday morning. Judging of these will take place at Friday morning, too.
There will be a homecoming practice during fourth period on Thursday, with a homecoming parade, cookout and bonfire Thursday evening.
The school will be holding a homecoming pep rally and skits Friday afternoon. Then, at 6:30 p.m. before the homecoming game, there will be pre-game activities and a queen will be crowned. The nominees for queen are Haiden English, Katie Gilkey, Lara Perrin, Sadie Fox, Kelsie Powell and Maddi Greene.
Preparation and decorating for Saturday’s homecoming dance will take place between 7-11:30 a.m. at the high school. An alumni parade will make its way down East Main Street. The lineup for the parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Pomeroy ball fields, with the parade itself beginning at 1 p.m. There will also be food, games and entertainment on the Pomeroy Parking Lot before, during and after the parade.
Finally, rounding out the week will be the homecoming dance Saturday from 8-11 p.m.
