Pro golfer sponsors tennis event for museum benefit

The Point Pleasant River Museum’s Annual Tennis Tournament returns July 28-30 at the tennis courts at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School.


POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — It’s time to serve up some tennis and fundraising for the Point Pleasant River Museum and Learning Center.

The museum’s annual tennis tournament takes places July 28-30 at the Point Pleasant High School courts, which is one of the newer additions to the athletic complex.

This year’s tournament is sponsored by LPGA golfer Brittany Lincicome. Athough Lincicome will be there in spirit, she’ll actually be in England competing in LPGA tournament play the week of the tennis fundraiser.

This year’s tournament will allow players to enter two events, with players able to choose from men’s and women’s singles and doubles, as well as mixed doubles. Division are as follows, men’s and women’s singles and doubles – under age 21, age 21 to 49, age 50 and over, open class. When it comes to mixed doubles, divisions are under age 21 and open class.

Entry fee is $15 per event plus a can of balls for the first match. Fee must be enclosed with an entry form found online at www.pprivermuseum.com, or by requesting one by calling the river museum at 304-674-0144, or emailing museum@pprivermuseum.com. All entries must be received by 5 p.m., July 26.

The river museum will also be hosting a dinner cruise as a fundraiser when the Belle of Cincinnati arrives at Riverfront Park next week on July 25. Boarding at 6:30 p.m. and departure at 7 p.m. with the vessel returning to the park around 9:30 p.m. that night.

A buffet-style dinner is planned as is a performance from local entertainer Joey Wilcoxon. Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for children ages 4-12 and can be obtained by calling the river museum. This cruise is also handicap-accessible for those with special needs.

Following the cruise and tennis tournament, will be Tribute to the River Sept. 2-3 at Riverfront Park, and the Dragon Boat Festival, Sept. 24 at Krodel Park, all organized by the river museum.
