POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — “Led Zeppelin II” or “Shrek 2,” perhaps Adele’s “21,” 7 Up and even Prince Harry … all evidence that sequels can turn out well.

Sometimes, the sequel is better than the original, which is what The Kitchen Table (TKT) is hoping for with its upcoming Lip Sync Battle Part II, at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20 in the Wedge Auditorium at Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School. The original Lip Sync Battle, held in April at The Meeting House, was a sellout, with organizers having to turn people away once the venue filled.

This time, TKT ladies have booked a larger venue and are selling advance tickets, as well as tickets at the door the day of the show. Organizers are pulling out all the stops to fill a lip sync battle bill with some well-known names from throughout the area, including those in local politics, the national pageant scene, teachers from across Mason County, area business people, the religious and health care communities and the even, a funeral director. Contestants doing battle will be in it to win it for a good cause.

Pastor Matt Dotson,, of Good Shepherd UM Church, will be returning to defend his Lip Sync Battle title won in the original contest. Joining Dotson will be the following contestants: Richard Green from Wilcoxen Funeral Home, educators Chipper Hendricks, Matt Cottrill, Daniel Tench, Mason County Commissioner Rick Handley, stylist Kenny Grady, businessman and real-life singer Brandon Sweeney, Hannan High School counselor Jessy Scott, surgical tech and community organizer Ashley Cossin, attorney Tanya Handley, Miss Ohio USA Megan Wise, and educators Kayla Tucker, Rachel Reynolds, Sara Thompson and Ruthie Sheets.

Pre-sale tickets will be sold up until this Saturday and will be available from 6-8 p.m. both Friday, Aug. 12 and Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Pleasant Valley Hospital booth at the Mason County Fair in the main commercial building. Pre-sale tickets will also be sold from 9-11 a.m. at Crow Hussell Funeral Home on Saturday, Aug. 13, and are on sale now in the PVH gift shop at the hospital during regular business hours. Pre-sale tickets are $5 and guarantee a seat on the floor in the auditorium. Tickets are $7 the day of the lip sync battle and will be available at the door.

For those who are confused about just what a lip sync battle is, contestants go on stage, pretending to sing and perform popular songs. Contestants at the upcoming Lip Sync Battle Part II will compete in pairs with the audience deciding, by applause, who goes forward to the next round. Those pairings are being kept a secret. Ultimately, there will be a final battle round in which the top two contestants go head-to-head performing a second song. The event will be emceed by personalities from 93.1. The Wolf.

Also at the Lip Sync Battle Part II will be concessions and commemorative t-shirts. All proceeds benefit The Kitchen Table programs, which include providing free community meals and feeding children with its Kid’s Kafe program. The Kitchen Table recently became part of the Pleasant Valley Hospital Auxiliary’s Outreach Committee, though all of its programs are donation driven and all donations benefit those in need in Mason County.

The Kitchen Table hopes to grow its programs, with plans for an upcoming community hog roast, the continuation of its Kid’s Kafe program (which began feeding hundreds of children this summer) into the fall months, an appearance at the Mothman Festival with unique food items as a fundraiser, holiday meals, and the establishment of an emergency food pantry. But, again, all of these plans are donation driven and benefit local people.
