POMEROY — Monday night’s Pomeroy Village Council meeting saw the official change of a speed limit in Pomeroy.

Ordinance No. 767 changes the speed limit, starting at the Pomery-Mason Bridge eastward to the traffic light, from 25 mph to 35 mph. The speed limit traveling under the bridge has also changed from 25 mph to 35 mph.

Mayor Jackie Welker said it was about time the change was finalized since he officially began working on it in April 2013.

“I thought 25 (mph) coming off the bridge is a little ludicrous,” he said. “And that’s where we’re getting a lot of negative publicity about being a speed trap.”

Sonya Wolfe’s name was also officially removed from the old bank accounts, and Welker said the state auditor’s office recommended Susan Baker, of Middleport, as a temporary clerk. He added that this will not affect her work in Middleport.

The council is also continuing the Waterline Replacement Project and Water System improvements, although Welker said there’s nothing new to report beyond that.

Improvements as part of the project will include upgrades to the water treatment plant and booster stations, and repairs and replacements to storage facilities and waterlines. Upgrades at the treatment plant will include work on the wells and filters. These improvements will provide an additional 200,000 gallons of water per day to the current system.

It was reported during the meeting that six former police vehicles have been sold for a total of $9,400. The vehicles included a 2004 Dodge Dakota, a 2006 Chevy Impala, a 2003 Crown Victoria, a 2005 Crown Victoria, a 2006 Crown Victoria and a 1997 Chevy Blazer.

In regards to the Senior High building, the council voted to get an appraisal on the building before setting a price on it.
