Reader: Why does doctor need to know if I’m armed?

Dear Editor,

I went to the doctor today and was asked to fill out a new form. On one of the items you were supposed to circle all that applied about what was in your house. I was surprised to find “firearms” and “firearms (loaded/unloaded).”

What was that all about? I could understand it if I were in a psychiatrist’s office or I was suicidal. Could this be a sneaky way for the government to find out who has guns and if they are loaded?

You might want to think twice before answering this type of question.

Connie Gibbs,

I would have left it blank regardless if it was a "need to know answer" or not!!! In my opinion, it's nobodys business whether you have firearms in your home or not. That's why we have the 2nd amendment, which allows us, the U.S. citizens the right to keep & bear arms. I haven't been to a Dr in a while. When I do have to go & the question is on the papers you have to fill out, i'm gonna ask the reason for the question & I WILL NOT fill that section out. Like I said, it's nobodys business but your own. & in my opinion, the same applies with a CCW permit.I do have one & yes I do carry concealed but it seems like everyday there are more & more places NOT allowing you to carry on their premises. & it's not only public & gonernment areas either. I was driving through Gallipolis & I had seen a sign in the yard of a resident's house stating "No Firearms Of Any Kind Allowed On The Property". So if i'm in a gas station waiting in line to pay for gas or what ever it might be & someone pulled a gun & attempted armed robbery & the place of business didn't allow firearms on the premises & I drew my concealed carry pistol & got it under control & possibly saved a life or two until the police arrived. Does that mean i'm going to jail for doing a good deed for the public? By the way, did you ask why the question was on there?

I don't know, why don't you ask your doc why that question was on the form. And by the way, the government knows already you have a gun in the house on the day you purchase or register it. They also assume it's loaded at all times so watch out, the big, bad government could come knocking any day now.
