POMEROY — The recovery of a stolen vehicle, arrests and traffic accidents are all currently under investigation by the Pomeroy Police Department.

A vehicle owned by Benjamin Ewing, Pomeroy, was recently stolen after being parked on Mechanic Street. The 1994 E150 was recovered a day later by a deputy with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office at Vinton Memorial Park Cemetery in Vinton. Ewing reported to the Pomeroy Police Department that after retrieving the vehicle, the following items were missing: a Ferno-Washington first call cot valued at $4,000; first responder first aid disaster kit valued at $350, two disaster pouches valued at $200, small first responder first aid kit valued at $250.

Patrolman Shane Bell arrested Kevin R. Whobrey, 33, Racine, for allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence. An inventory search of the vehicle also produced what officers suspected to be marijuana. The traffic stop occurred at 320 East Main Street. Whobrey’s vehicle was towed from the scene and he was later released.

Sgt. Ronald Spaun arrested Hope L. Thompson, 30, Pomeroy, for allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence. Thompson’s vehicle was towed, she was cited for OVI and left of center in Pomeroy Mayor’s Court and later released. The traffic stop occurred on Spring Valley Road.

Traffic accidents under investigation:

Hannah Hoffman, age and address unreported, struck a deer that crossed her path on Union Avenue. Hoffman was driving her father’s 2009 Pontiac G3 which sustained minor damage though it was towed from the scene.

An accident involving vehicles driven by James E. Fish, Pomeroy and Nancy L. Schartiger, Pomeroy, occurred on Kerr Street. No citation was listed. Bell is investigating.
