The temperature at 2 p.m. on Friday in Pomeroy registered 105 degrees on the thermometer at Farmers Bank. But that wasn’t the high for the day, according to one resident, who said at just before 1 p.m. it showed 108 degrees. residents, especially senior citizens, were encouraged to stay out of the heat and to drink lots of water. Meigs County Dog Warden Tom Proffitt expressed his concern for animals. He recommended that they be given fresh water twice a day. He also said if animals don’t have shade some may be created with a tarp or a covering so they can get out of direct sunshine. Pets should not be encouraged to go inside an enclosure like a dog house because such spaces can be 15 to 20 degrees higher than it is outside.
