Vikings extend TVC Ohio lead

JACKSON, Ohio — The rich only get richer.

The Vinton County golf team tightened its grip in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division league standings with five-shot victory over the field Monday at Franklin Valley Golf Course in Jackson County. It was the Vikings’ fifth win in six matches this fall.

Vinton County fired a collective 189, ahead of the Meigs Marauders, who posted a 194. VCHS now has a 35-1 overall record after six matches, while Meigs is now 31-5. The Vikings and Marauders were co-champions during the 2014 TVC Ohio golf season.

River Valley finished the match tied for fifth overall with Nelsonville-York with a 213. Athens (203) was third, host Wellston (205) placed fourth and Alexander (224) was last in rounding out the field.

The Raiders currently sit third in the standings with a 16-20 record, followed by Wellston in fourth with a 14-22 record and Athens is in fifth with a 13-23 record. The Spartans dropped down to sixth with a 9-27 mark, just ahead of NYHS in seventh with a 8-28 mark.

Levi Chapman and Chase Whitlatch led the Marauders’ efforts with a 46 each, followed by Wyatt Nicholson with a 49. Evan George shot a 53, while Bryce Swatzel and Caleb Stanley shot 57 and 59 respectively.

The Raiders were led by Logan Sheets, who shot a 42. Marina Cervantez followed with a 54, while Chance Gillman shot a 58. Cliff Chapman (59) and Grant Gilmore (67) also contributed to River Valley’s final tally.

Scores for VCHS included Noah Waddell (41), Austin Ward (46), Alec Boothe (48), Tyler Barnett (54), Bailey Bartoe (57) and Cameron Harmon (60).

Scores for Alexander included Casey McDonald (51), Andrew Vogt (54), Derek Boudinot (59), Tyler Martin (60), Johnathan Ray (64) and John Cramer (68).

Scores for Athens included Drew Zorn (46), Patrick Greer (49), Preston Hayes (53), Greg List (55), Ryan Sceehan (60) and Owen Campitelli (63).

Scores for NYHS included Hunter Dobbs (52), David Strausbaugh (53), Casey Davis (54), Tyler Smith (54), Ben Johnson (57) and Chase Kolzer (60).

Scores for Wellston included Blake Royster (47), Josh Lung (51), Justin Rafferty (51), Ken LeMaster (56), Seth Coulter (66) and Michael Channell (74).

The final TVC Ohio match will take place at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Hills Golf Course in Glouster. Nelsonville-York will serve as host.
