GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — A strong second half leads the Golden Eagles to victory.

Midway through Thursday night’s non-conference soccer match in the Old French City, the host Ohio Valley Christian Defenders held a 2-1 lead. However, Belpre’s Edwardo Murciana posted a second half hat trick to lead the Golden Eagles to a 4-2 victory.

Ohio Valley Christian (1-4-2) senior Justin Sizemore led off the game, scoring in the eighth minute off of an assist from Levi Anderson. In the 27th minute the Golden Eagles tied the game with a goal by Jacob Davis. The Defenders reestablished the lead in the 37th minute when Rachel Sargent scored on an assist from Sizemore.

Just one minute out of the half Murciana tied the game with a goal for Belpre. Murciana gave BHS the lead in the 60th minute and then scored the game’s final goal in the 72nd minute.

Belpre held a 14-to-9 advantage in shots on goal and a 9-to-4 advantage in corner kicks. Ohio Valley Christian senior Marshall Hood had 10 saves, while Belpre’s Rawlin Barber posted seven.

The Defenders, who faced Gallia Academy in the Holzer Cup on Saturday, return to action on Monday when Cross Lanes Christian visits Gallipolis.
