Dozen locals earn TVC Hocking volleyball honors

A dozen people from the Ohio Valley Publishing area were selected to the 2015 All-Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division volleyball team, as voted on by the coaches within the league.

Southern led the local squads with five selections, while Eastern had a total of three honorees. South Gallia and Wahama also had two selections apiece.

Seniors Jansen Wolfe, Madison Maynard, Ali Deem and Brynn Harris, as well as junior Marlee Maynard, were selected on behalf of the Lady Tornadoes.

The Lady Eagles were represented by senior Kelsey Johnson and junior Katlyn Barber, while seniors Mariah Hineman and Kirstin Burnette were selected from the Lady Rebels. Seniors Olivia Hill and Taylor Warden were chosen from the Lady Falcons.

Eastern’s Katie Williams was named Co-Coach of the Year along with Howie Caldwell from Trimble. Waterford’s Dani Drayer was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Trimble’s Morgan Murphy was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Southern finished tied for first in the conference standings with Trimble and Waterford. Eastern finished fifth in the standings, while South Gallia and Wahama finished sixth and eighth respectively.

Wolfe, Harris, Johnson, Barber and Hill were repeat selections to the All-TVC Hocking teams from a year ago. Murphy and Nikki Kish of Trimble, Drayer, Jillian McCutcheon and Allison Kern of Waterford, Daisy Cowdery of Belpre, and Sanae Dutiel of Miller were also earned repeat all-league selections.

FEDERAL HOCKING (12-4): Katlyn Young, McKenzie Steele*.

EASTERN (8-8): Kelsey Johnson*, Katlyn Barber*.

SOUTH GALLIA (7-9): Mariah Hineman, Kirstin Burnette.

BELPRE (4-12): Daisy Cowdery*, Trinity King.

WAHAMA (1-15): Olivia Hill*, Taylor Warden.

MILLER (1-15): Sanae Dutiel*, Whitney Eveland.

Offensive Player of the Year: Dani Drayer, Waterford.

Defensive Player of the Year: Morgan Murphy, Trimble.
