POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Not on this porch.

The visiting Bulldogs proved they had some bite, but the Point Pleasant wrestling team won 8-of-14 individual matches Thursday night while claiming a 45-36 decision over Athens in a non-conference dual held at PPHS in Mason County.

There were a total of five forfeits throughout the 14 separate divisions, with the Big Blacks claiming a small 3-2 advantage in those final decisions — which essentially led to an extra six points to work with in the team score.

PPHS and Athens each gained four pinfall wins in the remaining nine matches held, with Chris Lush’s 7-2 decision over Nathen Van Weel in the 145-pound contest ultimately serving as Point Pleasant’s tiebreaker. The three extra points earned by Lush, along with the six points from the extra forfeit, provided the final nine-point margin of victory.

Caleb Lane scored a pinfall win over Makaylee Lowry at 120 pounds, while Miles Williams landed a pinfall victory over John Douglass at 152 pounds. Hunter White scored a pinfall win over Jeremiah Rowan during the 182 bout and Grant Safford pinned Jacob Tope in the 220 division.

All four PPHS pinfalls also occurred during the opening period of those respective matches.

George Smith (106), Luke Wilson (113) and Tannor Hill (285) scored wins for the Big Blacks by forfeit. Scotty Wilcox (120), Jeffrey Simpkins (132), Alex Ebert (160) and Andrew Roach (170) suffered setbacks for the hosts.

Point Pleasant also scored a pair of exhibition wins as James Patterson defeated Cordell West and Thomas Jeffrey beat Brian Sedwick.

Holden Macy (126), Devin Macy (132), Austin Roseman (160) and Tanner Tritipo (170) scored pinfall wins for Athens, while McFaren (195) and Cortez Gainey (138) won by forfeit.

The Big Blacks return to action Monday and Tuesday when they travel to historic Charleston (SC) to participate in the two-day Coastal Clash.
