Defenders blast Pike Christian, 85-32

PIKETON, Ohio — Thorough, from start to finish.

The Ohio Valley Christian boys basketball team shot 57 percent from the field and had all 10 players reach the scoring column Thursday night during an 85-32 victory over host Pike County Christian in a non-conference matchup.

The Defenders (13-5) never trailed as the guests opened a 24-2 first quarter advantage, then made a 17-7 run to secure a comfortable 41-9 cushion at the break. OVCS followed with a blistering 34-11 surge in the third canto for a sizable 75-20 lead, but the PCC closed regulation with a small 12-10 run to wrap up the 53-point outcome.

Ohio Valley Christian netted 35-of-61 field goal attempts overall, including a 6-of-14 effort from behind the arc for 43 percent. The guests hauled in 34 rebounds and also went 9-of-19 at the free throw line for 47 percent.

Marshall Hood led the Defenders with a double-double effort of 21 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Elijah McDonald with 14 points and a team-high five assists. Justin Sizemore and Austin Ragan each contributed nine markers, while Andrew Sims and Justin Beaver chipped in seven points apiece.

Josh McDonald was next with six points, while Dillon Ragan and Michael Gruber respectively added five and four markers. Bryce Gruber rounded out the winning tally with three points. Both Beaver and Austin Ragan also dished out a team-best four assists each.
