These twos were anything but terrible.
South Gallia, Wahama, Southern and Eastern combined for eight total selections — two apiece — on the 2015-16 All-Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division boys basketball teams, as chosen by the coaches with the nine-team league.
The Rebels (12-4) finished behind only co-champions Trimble and Waterford, both of whom went 14-2 within the TVC Hocking standings. The Tomcats and Wildcats were also the only programs to receive more than two selections to this year’s all-league squad.
SGHS, however, did come away with the most-cherished of honors as senior Joseph Ehman was selected as the 2016 Most Valuable Player within the Hocking Division. With that accomplishment, Ehman becomes the first Rebel in school history and first Gallia County native to be named a league MVP in the Tri-Valley Conference.
Ehman, along with classmate Landon Hutchinson — South Gallia’s second all-league selection— were also half of the four repeat choices to the All-TVC Hocking squad from last winter.
Wahama (7-9) placed fifth overall and had a pair of first-time selections in junior Philip Hoffman and senior Ryan Thomas.
Southern (5-11) was sixth in the league standings and was represented by junior Crenson Rogers and sophomore Dylan Smith, both of whom who were first-time recipients.
Eastern — which tied Miller for seventh place with matching 4-12 marks — landed a pair of first-time all-league honorees in senior Dillon Swatzel and junior Jett Facemyer.
Trimble’s Howie Caldwell and Waterford’s Tom Simms shared coach of the year honors within the league, allowing both programs to come away with five total selections.
Seniors Bryce Guthrie, Justice Jenkins and Cody Jones, as well as sophomore Randy Hixon, were all chosen on behalf of the Tomcats. Jenkins was also a repeat choice from a season ago.
Juniors Jordan Welch and Isaac Huffman, along with sophomores Bryce Hilverding and Wyatt Lang, all came away with first-time all-league honors for Waterford.
Belpre (9-7) finished fourth overall and was represented by senior Tavian Miller and junior Deijon Bedgood. Bedgood was also a repeat selection to the all-league squad.
Miller was represented by senior Garrett Bartley and sophomore Carson Starlin as first-time selections. Federal Hocking (3-13) placed ninth overall and was represented by senior A.J. Cobb.
Coach Caldwell was also the coach of the year selection during the 2014-15 campaign.
