ELLENBORO, W.Va. — A good night for the Lady Knights … all the way around.

The Point Pleasant softball team pounded out 15 hits en route to its seventh consecutive victory Wednesday night following a 13-0 mercy-rule decision over host Ritchie County.

The Lady Knights (14-6) received a gem from starting pitcher Karissa Cochran, who allowed only one baserunner while striking out nine over five innings of work.

The guests also provided Cochran with more than enough offensive support in the first inning, when PPHS plated six runs after sending 11 batters to the plate.

The Red and Black added to their six-run lead after scoring three times in the third, then tacked on four more scores in the fifth while securing a 13-0 advantage.

Kirsten Seese gave the Lady Rebels (10-6) their only baserunner after producing a single with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but the hosts ultimately ran out of outs as the mercy-rule decision kicked in.

Point Pleasant claimed a season sweep of RCHS after posting a 3-1 win at home back on March 21.

The Lady Knights outhit the hosts by a 15-1 overall margin and did not commit any of the five errors in the contest. PPHS stranded eight runners on base, while Ritchie County left only one on the bags.

Karissa Cochran led the Point offense with three hits, followed by Michaela Cottrill, Makinley Higginbotham, Leah Cochran and Kelsie Byus with two safeties apiece. Tanner King, Kelsey Price, Karson Bonecutter and Cammy Hesson also had a hit each in the triumph.

Leah Cochran — who had two-run homer in the fifth — led the guests with four RBIs, followed by Cottrill, Byus and Karissa Cochran with two RBIs apiece. Higginbotham, King and Bonecutter also knocked in a run each.

Byus, Price, Leah Cochran and Rachael Grimm scored two runs apiece for PPHS, while Cottrill, Lila Beattie and Jocelynn Frye-Wilson each crossed home plate once.

Kenna Delancy suffered the setback after allowing 13 runs (seven earned) and 15 hits over five innings while striking out three.
