LOGAN, W.Va. — It only takes one.

Cammy Hesson singled in Lila Beattie in the top of the fifth inning, allowing the Point Pleasant softball team to pick up its eighth straight victory Thursday night during a 1-0 decision over host Logan in a non-conference contest in Logan County.

In a pitcher’s duel until the very end, it was the visiting Lady Knights (15-6) who took full advantage of an opportunity in game full of limited chances.

Scoreless through four complete, PPHS started the fifth with a leadoff single by Tanner King. Beattie entered as a courtesy runner and advanced to second on a Kelsey Price sacrifice, then Hesson delivered a single to centerfield that allowed Beattie to come plateward for a 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Wildcats (13-11) managed only three baserunners in the contest, and their final chance to tie things up went away as Stephanie Curry was stranded at first following a one-out error in the sixth. Point induced back-to-back infield pop-ups to get out of the remainder of that inning unscathed.

The Lady Knights outhit LHS by a 5-2 overall margin and committed the only error of the contest. PPHS stranded four runners on base, while Logan left three on the bags.

Karissa Cochran was the winning pitcher of record after allowing two hits over seven innings while striking out six. Hana Sedlock suffered the setback after surrendering one earned run, five hits and a walk over seven frames while fanning two.

King led the guests with two hits, while Hesson, Kelsie Byus and Makinley Higginbotham each provided a safety for the victors. Byus led the seventh off with a double and was the only other player for either team to get into scoring position during the contest.

Sedlock and Brooklyn Queen had the lone hits for Logan. Queen singled in the first and Sedlock singled in the second, but neither player made it to second base in those respective frames.
