BEAVER, Ohio —The Pike Eastern Eagles ended the season for the South Gallia High School softball squad on Monday, winning 22-1 in a Division IV sectional semifinal tilt at Eastern High School.

The Rebels, which were the 11th-seeded squad in the sectional, scored their only run in the fourth inning.

Eastern, the sixth seed, scored twice in the opening inning — before adding a pair of three-run spots in the next two frames for an early 8-0 advantage.

After the Rebels’ run, the Eagles exploded for 14 runs in the bottom of the fourth, making it 22-1.

The contest was called following the fifth inning with the 10-run mercy rule.

Four Rebels pitched in the game, as Erin Evans worked the fourth — and was charged with 10 earned runs on five hits and five walks.

Keirsten Howell started and tossed one inning, before Aaliyah Howell threw the next two and Olivia Hornsby the fourth.

Eastern outhit the Rebels 10-3, as South Gallia committed four errors to the Eagles’ one.

The Rebels scored their only run when Hornsby was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth, then moved to second on a groundout.

Following a flyout for the second out, Taylor Burnette singled to left — as Hornsby advanced to third and went home on the Eagles’ errant throw.

Hornsby and Howell had the other hits for the Rebels, as both — along with Burnette — went 1-for-2.

Savanna Garrison was the complete game winning pitcher for Eastern.
