HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — We are … covering Marshall.
The Ohio Valley Publishing group is pleased to announce that the sports department will be adding a limited amount of Marshall University football coverage to our publications throughout the course of the 2016 campaign.
In addition to our normal coverage of all varsity sports in the OVP area, our addition of the Thundering Herd will not only be available to the daily publications of the Point Pleasant Register, Gallipolis Daily Tribune and The Daily Sentinel — but throughout our chain of companies in southeastern Ohio, western West Virginia and eastern Kentucky.
Marshall will host seven of its dozen football contests this fall, and the OVP group plans on being at most of those games at Joan C. Edwards Stadium. The OVP group, however, will not be covering road contests.
The Marshall University football program held its annual Fan Fest and Media Day on Sunday at Edwards Stadium, which allowed us to gather information for an upcoming season preview. That preview will be made available to all of our publications upon completion.
This experiment may or may not be successful on our part, but the idea of being able to bring Marshall football coverage to our readers — which surround the Huntington region — was one that we felt willing to try.
The Thundering Herd kicks off its 2016 campaign at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, when Morgan State comes to town for a non-conference matchup.
NOTE: Former Point Pleasant standout Cody Mitchell was not available for an interview about his first season with the Thundering Herd football program. Mitchell, who will play tight end and wear number 82, is on the roster and did participate in the Fan Fest held Sunday in Huntington.
