GROVE CITY, Ohio — Lexi Paas scored a pair of first half goal to spark Ohio Christian University past the University of Rio Grande, 2-0, Thursday afternoon in River States Conference women’s soccer action at Grove City Christian School’s Stadium Turf.

The Trailblazers improved to 4-5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the victory.

Rio Grande slipped to 2-7-2 overall and 1-1-1 inside the RSC.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on the OCU campus in Circleville, but was moved due to poor field conditions.

Paas scored what proved to be the only goal OCU would need just 6:24 into the contest, taking a pass from teammate Brooke Wilhite behind the RedStorm defensive back line and beating Rio freshman goal keeper Andrea Vera (Quito, Ecuador) with a shot to the far left side of the net.

Paas scored again 12-1/2 minutes later via a pass from Rachel Bingaman to set the final score.

The Trailblazers finished with a 20-5 edge in shots, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Mekayla Deffenbaugh collected three saves en route to a shutout effort in goal for OCU.

Vera stopped four shots in a losing cause for the RedStorm.

Rio Grande returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Union (Ky.) College for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
