Lady Eagles sweep Miller

TUPPERS PLAINS, Ohio — Trying to end on a high note, the Lady Eagles start the final week of the regular season with a sweep.

With the postseason beginning in a week, the Eastern volleyball defeated Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division guest Miller in straight games, on Monday evening in Meigs County.

The Lady Eagles (11-9, 9-5 TVC Hocking) never trailed in the opening game, rolling to a 25-14 victory.

Miller led 4-3 in the second game, but Eastern took the lead with a 17-0 run. The Lady Eagles won the second game by a 25-10 count, moving ahead 2-0 in the match.

MHS led by as much as three early in the third game, but Eastern battled back to tie the game at 10. From there, the Green, White and Gold claimed the next nine points and cruised to the 25-14 victory, sealing the match sweep.

“The girls played very well tonight,” EHS head coach Katie Williams said. “We said, ‘let’s play excited and intense’ and I thought they did a very good job of doing that. We’re trying to take some momentum into next week.”

The EHS service attack was led by Abby Litchfield with 18 points and one ace. Morgain Little was next for EHS, posting nine points and one ace, while Morgan Baer chipped in with six points and one ace. Allison Barber finished with five points, Katlyn Barber and Abbie Hawley both marked three points and one ace, while Mackenzie Brooks and Alexus Metheney rounded out the Eastern total with two points and one point respectively.

“We’ve been working really hard trying to get our serving back on track,” said Williams. “The girls made the adjustments that I asked them to make and our serves were much tougher tonight.”

Katlyn Barber led the victors at the net with 11 kills, followed by Brooks with eight kills. Little posted six kills and one block, while Baer chipped in with four kills and team-bests in blocks with two, and assists with 22. Kelsey Casto contributed three kills to the winning cause, while Allison Barber had two kills and one block.

Katlyn Barber also posted a team-high 13 digs, followed by Allison Barber with seven.

Ryleigh Newman led the MHS service attack with four points, followed by Laci Alexander and Olivia Houk with three each. Haille Joseph and Brooklyn Wilson each had one service point for the Lady Falcons.

Eastern also defeated MHS on September 19, in Hemlock.

This was Eastern’s Volley for the Cure game.

After hosting Federal Hocking on Tuesday, the Lady Eagles will visit Wahama on Thursday for the regular season finale.
