POMEROY — The Pomeroy Police Department will be conducting a check point as part of the “Click It or Ticket” mobilization which runs from May 21 through June 3.
Officers will be conducting the check point on the gravel lot near the Bridge of Honor in Pomeroy.
The “Click It or Ticket” campaign focuses on seat belt usage both day and night. The highest rate of seat belt usage in Ohio in the past has been 84 percent, with the Office of Criminal Justice Services setting this year’s goal at 85 percent.
More than 900 agencies throughout the state participated in the mobilization last year, making it one of the most successful in the country.
In addition, the Pomeroy Police Department will be taking part in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization which runs from August 17 to September 3.
The Safe Communities Coalition has made available $35,000 in funds for a reimbursable traffic safety grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety. The amount of funds available is determined by the number of traffic fatalities that have occurred in the county between 2009 and 2011.
The goals of the grant focus on priority areas established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that include restraint usage, impaired driving and other high risk traffic safety offenses such as speeding and distracted driving.
