SYRACUSE — Allen Wayne Hamm, 64, of Syracuse, Ohio passed away on February 16, 2009.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1944 in Pomeroy, Ohio, son of the late Walter Hamm and Lena Mae VanMeter Hamm. He was a United States Navy veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9926. He was a former employee and chemist of the Philip Sporn Plant in New Haven,W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Hamm and Carol Crujeiras and two brothers, Larry Hamm and Howard Hamm.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betty; three step-children, Vickie (Gary) Clark of New Haven, Chester, (Fhonda) Young of Mason, W.Va. and Sue Schwarz of Clifton, W.Va.; grandchildren, Kristin (Jake) Corey of Beckley, W.Va., Heather Schwarz of Clifton, Jacob Young of Mason, Roger (Virginia) Chadwell of Middleport, Ohio and Jennifer Chadwell of Long Bottom, Ohio; great grandchildren, Madison Corey and Austin Chadwell; brothers, Charles (Nedra) Hamm of Indiana, Mike Hamm of Pomeroy and Bob (Martha) Hamm of Chillicothe, Ohio; sister, Betty (Ray) Johnson of Venice, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Hamm of Kenton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was also blessed with many great friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Glenn Rowe officiating at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will follow at the Sunrise Memorial Cemetery in Letart, W.Va. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
