Dear Editor,

The Obama administration has targeted our state for allowing a time-honored tradition regarding the military vote. In a move that could have an impact on the final result of the presidential election, Barack Obama’s campaign has sued Ohio to block a measure which extends early voting for members of the military. The action brought quick responses from Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and as many as 15 military groups.

DeWine recently told Fox News that he found the July 17 action by Obama campaign, the Democratic National Committee and the Ohio Democratic Party “quite shocking.” The tradition for allowing special circumstances for military personnel in voting dates back to the civil war, he said. Voting in a free election is one of the pillars of a democratic society. No group of people should be afforded the right to vote more than those who defend our democracy with their lives. Americans, do your homework — vote for freedom and democracy this November.

Kevin Dennis,

Gallia County

That's a false story. You should fact check before posting.

This comment is a flat out LIE. The Obama administration is suing to get everyone the right to early voting. (Not just republican counties)

Here we go again. I am a voter who does their homework and here are the facts Mr. Dennis. Read and learn. President Obama brought this lawsuit to ensure that the rest of Ohio has the same right to early voting as members of the military. Early voting has gone back years in Ohio and only this year have the Republicans in Columbus attempted to take this right away (wonder why)?

However, this attempt by the Republicans is particularly shameful because they’re hiding behind our servicemen and women to try and win a lawsuit to deprive other Ohioans of the right to vote. However, I have a feeling you know this already, but your Republican operatives gave you a form letter to send to the editor. Maybe you’re the one who should be doing your own homework, turn off Fox News and figure things out for yourself.

Sincerely,

M.C. Miller
