POMEROY — An hour-long hazard mitigation grant program briefing to be conducted by the Ohio EMA Mitigation Branch, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Courthouse Annex, 117 East Memorial Drive, Pomeroy.

The purpose of the meeting is to ensure that the opportunity to take critical mitigation measures to reduce risk of loss of life and property from future disasters is not lost during the reconstruction process following a disaster.

The briefing will cover the following aspects of the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program — how it works, who can apply for funds, the application process, the criteria used for selecting projects and types of projects which are eligible for the grant program.

It was emphasized in the news release from the agency that it is not public assistance for repair work on infrastructure (i.e. roads, bridges, and culverts), debris removal issues, stream bank stabilization and dredging concerns, and specific homeowner issues.

It is suggested that EMA directors, floodplain administrators, county commissioners and county engineers, city and village mayors and council members, township trustees and other local officials attend. However the meeting is not open to residents.

At 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday following the mitigation grant program meeting, the Meigs County Emergency Planning Committee will meet in the Senior Citizens conference room for further discussion.
