Meigs and Gallia counties landed a total of 13 girls on the District 13 Basketball Coaches Association teams for the 2012-13 campaign, as voted on by the coaches within the area.
Of the six schools within the Ohio Valley Publishing area, only Meigs failed to land a player on the list. Eastern led the way with four selections, followed by Southern and Gallia Academy with three apiece. South Gallia had two choices and River Valley also landed one selection.
Eastern’s Jenna Burdette shared player of the year honors with Waterford senior Brooke Drayer for a second straight season in Division IV, as the junior was a first-team selection. Classmate Jordan Parker was also a first-team choice for EHS in D-4, while junior Erin Swatzel and senior Savannah Hawley were respectively chosen to the second-team and special mention squads.
South Gallia — a D-4 district finalist — landed two players on the squad, as seniors Ellie Bostic and Meghan Caldwell were respectively chosen to the first-team and second-team lists.
Southern also had three selections on the D-4 team, as junior Celestia Hendrix was a second-team choice while both junior Jordan Huddleston and freshman Jansen Wolfe were each named to the special mention squad.
Gallia Academy had three players selected to the Division II squad, with sophomore Kendra Barnes leading the way as a second-team choice. Sophomores Chelsy Slone and Micah Curfman were also named to the special mention list in D-2.
Senior Cady Gilmore was the lone River Valley choice after being named to the second-team in Division III.
District 13 encompasses all the teams located in Lawrence, Jackson, Gallia, Meigs, Washington, Athens, Hocking and Vinton counties.
