RACINE — The Dollar General store in Racine recently celebrated its grand opening at its location at 602 Elm Street in the village’s new commercial development district.

The 9,014-total square foot Dollar General store is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week and can be reached at 949-2308. The Racine store joins Dollar General stores in Pomeroy and Tuppers Plains in Meigs County and 475 stores in Ohio.

The Racine store employs approximately six to 10 people, according to Emily Weiss of Dollar General who added that Dollar General is “delighted to be serving the community of Racine.” Weiss added, anyone interested in applying for a job at Dollar General will find more information and a job application at www.dollargeneral.com in the Career Center.

Weiss went on to say the new Dollar General will offer customers the brands and products they use most in a small, easy-to-shop store.

“Dollar General sells quality name-brand and private label merchandise such as health and beauty products, cleaning supplies, housewares, stationery, seasonal goods, basic clothing, packaged food products, refrigerated foods like dairy products and lunch meat, and frozen food,” Weiss said. “The majority of our products are priced at $10 or less, with approximately 25 percent of the products priced at $1 or less.”

Weiss went on to say: “In addition to being a convenient place to shop, Dollar General is deeply committed to the communities we call home. We are an ardent supporter of literacy and education, which we believe is an important step towards a better life. At the cash register of every Dollar General store, customers interested in learning how to read, speak English or get their GED can pick up a brochure with a postage-paid reply card that they can mail in for referral to a local organization that offers free literacy services. Dollar General also gives back through grants to community organizations. More information about the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and its grant programs is available at www.dollargeneral.com.”

Recently, members of the Racine Area Community Organization presented the Racine Dollar General store a plaque welcoming the business to the village. The plaque was accepted by Angie Burkhamer, store manager.
