Dear Editor:

It is my opinion, and I hope the opinion of many others, that the dedication and naming of this new bridge is a dreadful example of blind decision-making.

Many young men and women of the past and present and undoubtedly the future have left their families and homes, many never knowing if they would ever return, all for the same common goal, to serve and protect this nation and to preserve our freedom. Each and every one of the service men and women of this country and especially our surrounding communities are forever linked together by this new river span and their dedication to the United States military both at home and abroad.

All of these men and women are to be honored as heroes, past, present and future, and not just recognize two or three for their appreciated service to the country. I mean no disrespect to the families of these honored men mentioned in the previous articles, but I hope the communities agree that the new bridge should honor all of our veteran heroes.

Charlotte Wamsley

It is my understanding that the new bridge IS in honor of ALL veterans. It was changed from Medal of Honor Bridge to Bridge of Honor to honor all vets. I attended both dedications and it was mentioned that the bridge is in honor of all vets. Only the approach on the Ohio side is in honor of Bennett and Hartinger and the WV approach is in honor of Stewart.

I agree with Ms. Wamsley,

This bridge should be named in a way that ALL VETERANS are being honored instead of just a few being named. Or maybe since it has already always been known as the Pomeroy/Mason bridge, then why not name it.. the New Pomeroy/Mason Bridge??? it would be better than just naming a handful of people to honor.

M's Wamsley letter told it like it is.All veterns made America what it is. From Valley Forge, to Iraq, do not these men and women count.I know and honor these men who's name is on the bridge,I served 30 years in the Army. And retired as a first sergeant. From the cold in Korea to the swamps Of Viet Nam.I think that we should let the people, in a poll, should of named the brdge. To me it will always be the Mason bridge Tom Kimes

I agree with ms wamsley that the bridge should include all vetrans of the armed force's,i know my father served in vietnam but how many people think about those that served during this time of need.i have great respect for those named for the bridge but we as americans should not forget the others.

I have to agree... If we are going to name the bridge out of Honor, it should be to Honor ALL who fight for our freedoms, not just a select few.

I agree with Ms Wamsley on this matter. All Veterans should be honored not just the famous or successful.
